7 Things You Should Know About Haptics
Haptics technologies provide force feedback to users about the physical properties and movements of virtual objects represented by a computer. For applications that simulate real physical properties—such as weight, momentum, friction, texture, or resistance—haptics communicates those properties through interfaces that let users "feel" what is happening on the screen.
A Virtual Journey into the Universe
This free online activity allows puts students in the cockpit of a space shuttle as they explore the solar system. Students land on each planet where they find information about previous explorations of the planet, the planet’s exterior features, composition, and satellites. Students can also engage in interactive activities to learn more about various planetary features.

Art Teachers: Experiment with Still Life
This feature at the National Gallery of Art makes it possible for students to use web tools to compose their own still life paintings, using images of fruits, flowers, and other size and spatial arrangements. They can even add textured brushstrokes. The program includes a slideshow of 38 still life paintings, and kids can identify common elements and try to guess the artists who painted them. The activity requires Adobe's Shockwave Player, which can be downloaded as a free browser plug-in (if you don't have it). The player is not yet available as native software for Intel-based Macs - you'll need to run it in emulation mode. Click on "manual install" to find out how.

ASL Pro
ASLPro.com offers free online dictionaries, including an alphabetized dictionary as well as a conversational dictionary with categorical common phrases.
ASL Video Dictionary and Inflection Guide
The ASL Video Dictionary and Inflection Guide was developed by the Rochester Institute for Technology and presents signs in sentences or phrases, allowing the user to understand how signs change with meaning and inflection. The CD-ROM can be ordered for $50.00; there are demonstration video clips available on the Web site.
AutoTutor
The AutoTutor program and research on the use of teachable agents, created at the Institute for Intelligent Systems at the University of Memphis. The animated agent dialogs with the user as a tutor, eliciting deep reasoning and explanations.

Betty and Billy are teachable agents created at the Teachable Agents Group at Vanderbilt University. These agents interact with users by asking to be taught concepts necessary to solve problems in the program.
Between the Lions
The PBS show Between the Lions presents animated interactions with words, word parts, sounds, stories and songs within the setting of a library. Online games allow users to interact with the show's characters and activities.
Book Adventure
Book Adventure is a free reading motivation program for children in grades K-8. Children create their own book lists from over 7,000 recommended titles, take multiple choice quizzes on the books they've read, and earn points and prizes for their literary successes.
BookBuilder
BookBuilder is an online tool to develop e-books with three different embedded agents that offer strategic comprehension prompts. There is even an agent to help authors create the books. This library will grow as users post the books they have created.
